A student’s weight loss theories
I major in biology. Last semester I learned the decomposition of fatty acids without knowing the effect of it. Recently I became interested in it as I found that many drugs for losing weight contained the component of L-carnitine. According to the book,, the fatty acids can be decomposed oxidatively by the mitochondrion of the cells, however the long –chain fatty acids which can make us fat are so difficult to get into the mitochondrion that they should go through a kind of transport system called carnitine shuttle system. What does carnitine shuttle system remind you of ? Aha, I knew the origin of the L-carnitine. Carnitine is one of the main component to control the catabolism of the fatty acids, for example, A and B have the same amount of fatty acids to be decomposed while B has more carnitine than A. therefore, the fatty acids of B are much easier to get into the mitochondrion to be de composed while part of the fatty acids of A can’t get into the access quickly, so they should prolong the time to be decomposed. As a result, some people can loss weight quickly , some slow and some will never become fat no matter how much they eat. This, of course, is my personal understanding, but I think it is sensible.
So what is L-carnitine? It is a kind of protein which is widely contained in vegetable oil, meat and yolks. Many young ladies are on diet crazily, yet they still can not lose weight for they do not take in protein. Even if they can lose weight, most of the losing part is muscle which consists of protein tissues. It is harmful to your health if you keep this state, after all protein is the reflection of your life movement. So to lose weight by losing protein is more harmful than good.
Above I talked about so much professional knowledge in the hope that the young ladies can be dietary and do not blindly worship the methods of losing weight by eating 3 apples per day, or take in little meat or oil. The scientific research shows that those methods are harmful to your health. Personally I recommend to have regular diet and do exercise to lose weight.
Have regular diet:
First of all is surely to eat less and never engorge, otherwise it is impossible for you to lose weight. Then you should eat scientifically. No junk food but poultry , fish and meat is necessary but a little. Food containing protein such as milk and bean products is advocated because you body can not keep healthy without protein. And you should take in a little carbohydrate if you are losing weight seriously, and normally if you are keeping your figure because you body consumes carbohydrate at the very beginning. Or you will be hypoglycemic. Fibrin ,which the young ladies can take in by eating more vegetables and fruits, is absorptive. It can absorb the toxins in you body together and then excrete them. And if your stomach can not digest well, it can help digesting and defecating. Last is to take in vitamin especially the water-soluble vitamin such as VB. Or the inner balance of you body will be break down, as a result many nutriment can’t be absorbed and much food can’t be decomposed normally.
Do exercise:
Exercise , without any harm, can consume calories, train muscle(body of the stars), and burn fat. The young ladies who did not do exercise should take action as soon as possible, and those who are doing exercise should pay attention not to out of measure because we all know that too much is as bad as not enough. My major is not sports, so I could not talk about it detailedly. There are many posts in the BBS, you can read it by yourselves.
My personal plan of doing exercise:
40 minitues of low-intensity strength training per day.
50 minitues aerobic exercise.
doing warm-up before exercise. And doing tension between the two sports.
Finishing with final stretch.
Some young ladies are not satisfied with continious method ,and pursue the methods of single food or on diet. By this situation, I think the best way to lose weight is to take in L-carnitine supplement,not the drugs for losing weight. These drugs always contain some other substance and cause side effect. However to take in l-carnitine simple will not . you can consult the doctors in the pharmacy.

The L-carnitine can be synthesized after five steps of reaction of the lysine and methionine with the involment of vitamin C, niacin, vitamin B6 and reduced iron. Because the lysine is very sensitive to heat, our eating habits lead to a lack of l-carnitine easily.
The reason why we should take in l-carnitine is that a number of individuals is in the absence or marginal absence of the L-carnitine. The people who are in the absent state are as following : those who are fasting, obese, vegetarian, doing strenous exercise, and the infant who are eating the non-enhance carnitine and so on.
In 1993, the committee of the U.S.Food and Drug Administration(FDA) announced that L-carnitine is “generally recognized safe non-taxic” substance. Nevertheless so far the dosage and the usage of the L-carnitine has not been unified. The foreign experiments shows that it is safe and effective to take in L-carnitine 0.5 to 4 grams per day (the effect is not obvious to take in less than 250 mg),at times in the morning, bofore lunch or 30 minitues before exercise. And the effect of losing weight will be ideal if you eat some food with low fat and low carbohydrate(no more than 50 persent of the total calories). If you want to enhance endurance,you should take in L-arnitine continiously for a few weeks. And you had better not to take in it too late in order to aviod being too energetive to fall asleep.
