Obesity and type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes mellitus ( non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus ) is directly associated with obesity. About 80 percent of the type 2 diabetics are overweight or obese. Some one conducted an observational research on the women aged 35 to 50 for 14 years. And the result demonstrated that the harm of type 2 diabetes to the obese is 40 times higher than that of the normal-build wemen (BMI<22).
The main character of diabetes is the increase of the blood suger density. The main cause of the increase of the blood sugar density is that due to the insufficient secretion or the inefficient work of the insulin in the body of the diabetics, so the sugar in the blood cannot supply energy and the accumulates together.
Why is diabetes in favor with obese people? Because the fat cells in the obese people is bigger and more than those in the thin people and tend to accumulate in the abdomen. Fat tissue is an endocrine organ with active metabolism, and it can secrete many kinds of active substabce which can influence the metabolism. Too much fat in the body,especially in the viscera, will lead to the endocrine disorders , impede the production and use of insulin and make the body become less sensitive to insulin. Insulin is the only hormone in the body which can lower the blood suger. The decrease of insulin sensitivity means that the function of insulin to lower th blood sugar become weakened and it can’t adjust the blood sugar to anormal state.
The long-term hyperglycemia will seriously interfere with the metabolism of nutrient and result in a series of complications such as diabetes ketosis, cerbrovascular disease, diabetic hephropathy, retinopathy and so on. These complications not only harm the physical and mental health of diabetics, but also endanger their life.
